BenQ EX800ST is a DLP based wireless android smart projector focusing on the classroom environments. BenQ is a Taiwanese brand primarily in making monitors, projectors and other display technologies including its gaming monitor lineup under the brand Zowie.
BenQ EX800ST – Design
BenQ EX800ST is a smart wireless projector primarily made for educational institutions for smart classrooms. The projector has a dimension of (WxHxD) 296 x120 x250 mm and weighs around 2.6kg which is a decent weight for moving around the projector.
In the front, the projector has a massive convex lens aligned to the left side of the device which has a Dust guard anti-dust accumulation sensor that reduces the amount of dust collected on the lens. The projector comes in a sleek white plastic body with massive air vents in the sides to release the hot air and keep the system cool for long hours. From the top of the projector, you can find the wheel to adjust the lens focus, navigation buttons and power button.
BenQ has included a wide range of I/O ports that are placed at the rear including 1x HDMI, 1x VGA, 1x Monitor out (D-sub 15pin, Female), 1x Audio in(mini jack), 1x Audio out (mini jack), 1x RS232 In, 1x RJ45 Port, 1x USB Type mini B and 2 x USB Type-A ports for connecting external storage. It also features a 2W built-in speaker which is not too great at producing sound for a classroom or a meeting room. We recommend using an external audio source if the presentation has videos or any audio content included.
BenQ has featured two height-adjustable feet at the front and at the rear side. Which helps to tune the best position using the keystone to adjust the screen. The remote control comes with standard buttons to navigate to the features and other included apps for the projector. The stand-out feature is the integrated laser pointer on the remote which helps for meetings and for teachers while teaching in classrooms.
BenQ EX800ST is a DLP based Smart Android projector with a brightness of 3300 Lumens. The device comes with a resolution of 1024×768 and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The projector can produce 1.07 billion colours.
The Android 6.0 powered wireless projector features built-in WiFi with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and Bluetooth 4.0 for connecting wireless devices to the projector. The device comes with 2GB RAM onboard and 16GB inbuilt storage. The RAM seems too low for multi-tasking especially when running Android Applications, which is notorious for RAM hungry. However, you have to keep in mind the projector is meant for classroom or small presentations.
The BenQ Android projector support multiple file formats like JPEG, PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint files to project on the screen without using a Laptop. The EX800ST projector also features other built-in applications such as WPS Office and Firefox web browser. Another highlight of the projector is the BenQ Account Management System enables the users to access the files from the cloud such as Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive directly from the projector making a convenient feature for sharing presentations on the screen.
BenQ claims to provide an excellent 5000hours light source life in normal conditions, 15000h in SmartEco mode and 15000h in Lamp save mode which is decent. The Wireless Display allows the users to share the content directly from their Android, iPhone, PC or Mac which eliminates any cables when both the devices are connected to the same network.
BenQ EX800ST is a traditional looking projector with some smart features included which makes a fun package beyond the standard projector features. The Android projector has an easy to use interface with the Smart Education launcher. Even though the projector has 3300 lumens, the resolution is limited to XGA resolution, which is quite low in terms of display output.
The BenQ Smart Wireless Projector offers adequate I/O ports for connectivity, but the lack of a USB 3.0 port is missing. The Wireless display feature for Android, iOS, Mac and PC helps the users to share the content quickly to the screen. Also, BenQ Account Management System (AMS) is a nice addition to the package, which allows accessing files from the cloud services without depending on a PC or a Laptop.
