Slack Teaming up with Amazon to challenge Microsoft Teams
Slack is teaming up with amazon to challenge microsoft teams, a communication and collaboration application which is managed by Tech giant Microsoft.
“Slack will move its Voice and Video calls features to Amazon Chime platform”
The deal has struck in the recent rise of Microsoft Teams in the enterprise businesses. This multi year agreement will boost slack’s user base as it will bring all amazon employees to its platform, which is 840,000. Till now IBM were their biggest customer base which is around 350,000.
As per the deal, slack will now broadly adopt the use of Amazon Web Services (AWS). This migration move is expected to improve slack’s audio and video call services, which is Microsoft Teams strongest selling point and slack’s weakest. Also slack is now committed to use AWS as their preferred partner for storage, compute, database, security, analytics, machine learning, and future collaboration features.
Slack has been steadily growing its enterprise business, despite Microsoft’s big push with Teams during the lockdown period. Now the deal is promising a better Integration and interoperability for features like AWS Chatbot, a service that pushes out Slack channel alerts for AWS instances.
In a statement Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield has said “Strategically partnering with AWS allows both companies to scale to meet demand and deliver enterprise-grade offerings to our customers.”
The deal will bring benefit for both Amazon and Slack. As amazon gets an important customer for their AWS and Chime platform and Slack gets the reliability and security of AWS with a better voice and video calling service to directly challenge Microsoft powered Teams.
