BlackBerry, once the most prominent smartphone vendors in the world who lost the smartphone race in recent years due to the emergence of the Android and iOS platforms. The brand has signed a licensing agreement to use their brand name.
BlackBerry has signed a new licensing partnership for developing and producing new devices under the BlackBerry brand name with Onward Mobility and FIH Mobile Limited, an associate company of Foxconn Technology Group.
BlackBerry Android 5G smartphone with QWERTY keyboard is expected to available in first half of 2021
The new BlackBerry Android 5G smartphone is expected to release in the first half of 2021 in North America and Europe. The device will feature a physical QWERTY keyboard which is still considered as the best the smartphone industry.
Onward Mobility will conduct product planning and market development for BlackBerry smartphones in North America and FIH Mobile will design and manufacture the BlackBerry devices under strict guidelines to ensure component, device and supply chain integrity.
The new license agreement announcement with Onward Mobility is just ahead of the expiry of the current Global License with the TCL Corporation which was signed in 2016. Unlike the partnership with TCL, Onward Mobility will be making devices for the Enterprise business.
The last device released in the brand name of BlackBerry was the Evolve, a smartphone which was developed by the Indian market Licensee Opteimus Infracom in 2018.
